Week 6 – Reflecting on My Growth Through This Course

Reflective Essay: Growth, Alignment, and Spiritual Integration

This course has invited me to reflect deeply on who I am becoming—spiritually, professionally, and personally. Throughout each assignment, devotional message, and reflection activity, I have come to recognize patterns in my life where Christlike attributes, personal warning signs, technical growth, and spiritual transformation all intersect.

One of the clearest impressions from this semester is that the Savior’s approach to teaching is patient, gentle, and deeply personalized. In my own journey, I noticed that spiritual promptings often came ahead of decisions, warning me or preparing me long before I understood the purpose. When I ignored those promptings, the consequences became teachers. When I listened, I felt protected and strengthened. This course helped me examine those patterns honestly and see how they shape my discipleship.

Another key insight has been the importance of integrating spiritual values into professional development. My work, education, and technical projects are not separate compartments—they are extensions of who I am as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This realization strengthened my desire to lead with integrity, humility, courage, and compassion in every setting

.

As I examined my personal warning signs throughout the course, I noticed how often my imperfections have unintentionally caused pain, discomfort, or misunderstanding for others—family members, coworkers, community members, other drivers, even people I may never meet. Reflecting on this filled me with compassion, empathy, and a renewed determination to pursue constant personal refinement. Through prayer, repentance, and sincere desire to grow, I have prayed for their forgiveness and understanding as I continue forward on this marvelous journey of discipleship. This process has taught me that Christlike attributes are developed when I acknowledge my limitations and seek the Savior’s help in overcoming them.

Integrated Reflection on Christlike Attributes and Personal Warning Signs

President and Sister Kusch taught that spiritual sensitivity develops “line upon line,” and this course helped me see how spiritual impressions can quietly guide each stage of my growth. Moments when I ignored warnings became invitations for repentance. Moments when I responded faithfully deepened my testimony of God's awareness of me.

Sister Neill F. Marriott’s message, Stand in Truth, reminded me that humility and courage are central to personal transformation. I realized that many of my greatest spiritual breakthroughs came after uncomfortable self-examination. This course has helped me better understand how to listen to quiet impressions, honor commitments, and realign my life when the Spirit reveals misalignment.

Professional Growth, Integrity, and Ethical Development

Engaging with the ethical dilemma from Week 2 helped me see how Christlike attributes apply directly in professional environments. Ethical leadership is not dependent on title or position—just as Sarah demonstrated in her experience, influence comes from consistency, humility, and moral courage.

This course helped me reflect on how I want to show up in the workplace:

  • as someone who uplifts others rather than competes for status

  • as someone who brings calm to difficult situations

  • as someone who protects integrity even in small decisions

  • as someone who builds systems that serve people with fairness and clarity

These aspirations now guide how I approach technical projects, collaboration, and leadership responsibilities.

Usability Testing and Portfolio Design Enhancements

Conducting usability testing on my Professional Growth Portfolio taught me valuable lessons about clarity, presentation, and technical communication. Feedback from peers revealed where navigation needed improvement, where visuals were lacking, and where my messaging was unclear.

In response, I:

  • simplified and reorganized the navigation

  • added additional imagery and visual anchors

  • improved spacing, formatting, and typography

  • added a résumé download button for future employers

  • strengthened the clarity and purpose of each page

These changes helped create a portfolio that better represents my identity as both a developing IT professional and a disciple of Christ.

Signature Project Reflection – Prayer Slot Booking System (Integrated Section)

One of the most meaningful projects in my portfolio is the Prayer Slot Booking System (PSBS). Even though it is not currently in active use, it has become a symbol of both technical growth and spiritual development.

This system taught me how to build with purpose: to design a solution rooted in fairness, stewardship, and community service. It required careful problem-solving, clear logic, and accountability to values. Through this project, I strengthened essential IT skills including back-end development, authentication systems, user roles, environment configuration, deployment, and Nginx reverse proxying.

What surprised me most is how much this project prepared me for later success.
Because of the foundation PSBS provided, I was able to successfully deploy a complete Linux File and Application Server in my IT210 course. The gradients of experience—from debugging small issues in PSBS to configuring firewalls, permissions, and automated backups on a professional server—became a testimony to the Lord magnifying my efforts.

The project also reflected my spiritual identity. Building something intended to strengthen fairness and order in a worship environment taught me that technical work can be an expression of discipleship. I saw clearly how my spiritual nature influences the way I design systems and serve others.

This experience helped me recognize that my professional and spiritual paths are not separate; they reinforce one another. As a result, I see myself differently—not just as a technician or problem-solver, but as a disciple-builder whose technical abilities can bless others.

Temple Reflection and Mental Map

Visiting the temple and reflecting on temple principles broadened my understanding of spiritual-professional integration. The temple teaches clarity, order, reverence, holiness, and purpose—qualities that also define strong IT work.

My mental map helped me visualize the cycle:

Christlike Attributes → Internal State → Daily Decisions → Reputation → Trust → Opportunities to Serve → Discipleship → Increased Christlike Attributes

This cycle reminded me that spiritual growth and professional development are interconnected. Each decision—technical or spiritual—shapes who I am becoming.

Conclusion

This course helped me see myself with new eyes. I am more aware of my spiritual growth, more intentional in my professional development, and more committed to becoming a trusted and capable disciple of Jesus Christ. My imperfections, when acknowledged and refined with humility, have become stepping-stones toward Christlike character.

Through all of this, I have felt the Lord’s mercy, patience, and encouragement. I now move forward with a clearer vision of who He is helping me become and how I can use my gifts—in technology, leadership, fatherhood, and service—to build and bless the lives of others.
